FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions
Why are the URLs so long?
greitt uses UUIDs (Universally Unique Identifiers) for poll and participant links. A UUID looks like this: 30c86da1-cf9b-4dad-8fda-1864807b62fa
Why not shorter URLs?
The long URLs serve an important security purpose: they're virtually impossible to guess. With 36 characters containing over 122 bits of randomness, there are more possible UUIDs than there are grains of sand on Earth—or stars in the observable universe!
What does this mean for you?
- Your poll link is your password. Anyone with the link can access the poll, but it's essentially impossible for others to stumble upon it.
- Admin links give you full control. Only share them with people who should manage the poll.
- Participant links let people vote. Share these with everyone who should participate.
We may introduce shorter URLs in the future using a technology called "nanoid" that provides similar security with fewer characters. For now, the longer UUIDs give you maximum protection.
How do I save my poll?
Bookmark the admin URL, or add your email address on the poll page. With a verified email, you can access all your polls from the "My Polls" page.
Can I change my vote after submitting?
Yes! As long as the poll hasn't been finalized, you can return to your participant link and update your selections at any time.
What happens when a poll is finalized?
Once the admin selects a final date, voting is locked. All participants will see a banner showing the chosen date, and no further changes can be made.
When do polls expire?
Polls are automatically deleted after a period of inactivity to keep the system clean:
- Polls without a verified admin email: Expire after 30 days of inactivity
- Polls with a verified admin email or finalized: Expire after 90 days of inactivity
What counts as activity?
- Any changes to the poll (title, dates)
- New participant responses
- Participants updating their votes
Tip: Add your email address on the admin page to extend your poll's lifetime from 30 to 90 days!
